Another 30% are estimated to have pre-hypertension, a category established by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in 2003 for people in the danger zone before full blown hypertension develops. Millions of them don’t know they have a blood pressure problem. High blood pressure puts you at increased risk for stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, even blindness. Pre-hypertension is an indication that you may be headed for high blood pressure. And pre-hypertension may carry its own risks. |
